About the show

Behind closed doors, hidden inside legitimate businesses, online advertisements, hotels, private residences, and criminal networks exists a form of exploitation that can be remarkably difficult to see from the outside. The Dark World of Sex Trafficking examines the people, organizations, methods, and psychology behind sexual exploitation and trafficking. Through documented cases, investigations, prosecutions, and survivor accounts, the podcast explores how traffickers recruit and control victims, how criminal networks operate, how investigators uncover them, and why leaving an exploitative situation can be far more complicated than outsiders imagine. Episodes examine subjects ranging from grooming and coercive control to organized trafficking operations, illicit massage businesses, online recruitment, financial investigations, and the investigative strategies used by law enforcement. The goal isn’t to sensationalize exploitation. It is to understand how these systems operate, how people become trapped within them, and how they are uncovered.
