About the show

Nitrate Nights is a classic film history podcast about the stories Hollywood left out of the official record. Every episode digs into forgotten movie history, Golden Age scandals, old Hollywood true crime, and the strange origins behind the films, studios, and stars you thought you knew. How did Angela Lansbury pull her children out of the Manson Family's orbit? Why did William Castle rig theater seats with electric buzzers? Who was Oscar Micheaux, and why did the history books lose him? What does a scream recorded in 1951 have to do with almost every action movie since? From silent film pioneers and the Hays Code to studio sabotage, lost films, and the true crime cases that Hollywood turned into hits, host Harry Marks researches, writes, and produces every episode himself. He's a member of the New Jersey Film Critics Circle and the host behind The Lobby across TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube. New episodes take you deep into film history, movie trivia, and the stories that ended up on the cutting room floor.
