Shortly before the Utah Jazz and Oklahoma City Thunder game, a team doctor for the Jazz rushed onto the court to inform officials that center Rudy Gobert had tested positive for the coronavirus.
The following confusion resulted in the Jazz and Thunder game being postponed before ultimately being cancelled.
Then the news broke that the NBA was suspending their season indefinitely.
The escalation, while an appropriate safety measure, shocked fans, players, executives, and the media. Earlier today the consensus from the NBA Board of Governors call was that commissioner Adam Silver would announce Thursday that NBA games would continue without fans to limit the exposure of the coronavirus.
However we now know that the NBA will not only play without fans but not play at all in light of Gobert’s medical news.
Unprecedented. Unbelievable. Unimaginable. No terminology seems to do the situation justice as the NBA is entering new territory rapidly.
There currently is not a timetable for the league’s return and the NBA is going to use this hiatus to determine next steps going forward.
While we all wait for more news and information regarding not only the NBA but the coronavirus there is something we all can do together…
Wash. Your. Damn. Hands.
